3rd Annual International Drive Your VW To Work Day
Appleton, WI
Thursday, June 22, 2000

June 22nd was "International Drive Your VW To Work Day" as well as "International Day Of The Beetle". The Northern Wisconsin Volkswagen Club celebrated by driving our VWs to work and then meeting at a local diner after work. This was our FIRST official meeting. It was a wonderful surprise to see around 20 VWs show up. I had told the diner to expect around 10.

Billy and Julia from the DBG Bus Club helped us celebrate by bringing the '78 "Turtle" bus and the '58 Kombi. Billy's friend, Howard brought his custom Bug that was just awesome. We had a great time talking and looking at each other's VWs. Some of us had a bite to eat, while others hung out in the parking lot getting their fill of VWs. We ended our evening by cruising through downtown Appleton.

Those folks downtown didn't quite know what to make of us, so we cruized about three times down the main drag. By the third pass, they were cheering and yelling at us and had caught on to the game. I think they'll be prepared the next time. A few headed for home and the rest of us stopped at a parking lot to say our goodbyes. Thank you to everyone for making our club's first meeting a huge success.

Here are two pictures of my '74 Standard Sun Bug at work. Wouldn't you know two days before they started tearing out our old parking lot to prepare for putting in a new one!
