2nd Annual Fox Valley All Volkswagen Show
Appleton, WI
Saturday, August 4, 2001

Sponsored by Northern Wisconsin Chapter (NWVC) of Vintage Volkswagen Club of America,
N.E.W. Volksport and Van Dyn Hoven Imports, Appleton.

Whether you attended/participated in, the 2nd Annual Fox Valley All VW Show or helped to spread the word about the show, I thank you. A special thank you to all who helped or offered their help for the show. A big thank you to Howard and his family for hosting our campout and corn roast. Without all of you, the show would have never happened.

It was a warm day but many found shade by the dealership building in the afternoon and under the trees along the side in back. We were pleased with the turnout again this year and the swap meet doubled from last year. The air cooled dubs had a strong showing and increased their numbers from the year before. The water cooled crowd had a tough choice of shows for Saturday. There was a VW Treffen in Chicago on Saturday, too. There were a lot of great looking VWs and it was a very tight race for the trophies. I hope that this show helps to keep the VW enthusiasm alive and well in Northern Wisconsin.

The kids had a great time with the coloring contest. All but one kid (the first place winner) chose to take their pictures home with them. All of the kids received a prize for their coloring. See the pic of  the coloring contest below. I believe the first place winner will be a future split window bus owner.  There were quite a few folks that won on Saturday, who had never won at a show before. I heard that George, the manager of the dealership and the Van Dyn Hovens were rather intrigued with John Lago's infamous bus. I believe he showed them how he can start his bus if his battery is too low from a day of ice fishing.

The club had a great time camping at Howard's VW Farm. A few of the Chippewa Valley Volkswagen Club members from the Eau Claire area, joined us on Friday night. They had about a 3 1/2 hour drive to the campout/show. It was good to have their company and to return some of their hospitality from past years of attending their June show. We had a dip in Howard's pond after the show on Saturday to cool down and a corn roast later in the evening.

The show went well, but as with everything there is always room for improvement and we will be taking a look at what worked and what didn't. I hope that everyone who attended had an enjoyable time. Hope to see you again next year. If you weren't able to attend be sure to put it on your calendar for next year.
